I am a nerd and I stand tall… at 5’ 10” to be exact. Most people, including myself, were brought up to believe that being a nerd is lame, but I can personally assure you that they are wrong. Being a nerd is fun. Being a nerd gets you places. Being a nerd teaches you things that you will never learn from watching the Jersey Shore or reading some trashy celebrity magazine. Being a nerd is my life.

I find that, when writing bios, it’s really helpful to look at a list or a chart like the one above. Picking two or three traits from each chart and building a character based around them will give you a really interesting bio, because they will serve as a reminder that characters need depth and dimension.

Independent and clever.

VS.

Independent, clever, pretentious, and stubborn.

The first combination doesn’t come with any flaws, whereas the second will provide a more dynamic character.
